What we Do

Our programs provide healthcare and wellness services for youth, adults, seniors and their families in New Orleans, Louisiana and the greater Orleans County area. Over the next three years, we aim to serve over 400 individuals within the community, transforming their lives and showing the world what can be achieved through compassion and action. Our 5 objective form our programmatic pillars, that are going to help change communities forever:

1) Provide economic empowerment to marginalised communities through skills training and job placements as a means of providing a viable route for stable income generation

2) Build community resilience through peer-support networks and education on mental health and the importance of a united community that supports one another

Provide access to non-stigmatised addiction treatment and advocacy to help those who are Co-dependent on drugs to create their own path out of addiction and back into the community

4) Promotion and access to physical and mental healthcare for all community members, to reduce chronic health conditions and improve public health and mental wellbeing

5) Ensure those vulnerable in society have access to safe, clean and affordable housing and are provided with a good standard of living to reduce mental health risk factors

How Can We Make Lasting Change?

Community health, resilient, co-support and unity.

We are strongest together and weakest divided. Communities that come together and support one another are able to be the change they want to see and TCS is here to provide the structure, tools and support needed to Facilitate these changes and transform the lives of all those in the community. We are facing a growing problem, which cannot be addressed at the individual level, by the provision of key services, no matter who you are, if you were to stumble, TSC will be there to help get your life back on track as quickly as possible.

Our Flagship Programs

OBESITY CRISIS> Obesity has become one of the leading and most serious health problem in the US, with over 35% of all Americans categorised as obese. Target Care Services have developed empirically based programs to help lower the obesity rate within the community, by addressing the root cause of overconsumption and dietary habits as well as encouraging increased activity. Our goal is to teach participants how to take care of one’s body- through nutrition, exercise and understanding the unhealthy coping-behaviours, which trigger the brain similarly to addiction (comfort eating). We believe in educating all participants and empowering them to take a more active role in their community, to live longer, healthier and happier lives. TCS provide each of our participants the tools and resources necessary to take control in regaining their health and managing there weight. Exercise is fundamentally linked to both physical and mental wellbeing and an active lifestyle brings many benefits, from mental resilience to reduced risk of chronic diseases. Our program also have financial benefits too, those who switch to a healthy dietary on average spend 30% less on grocery shopping (with soda and processed meats being a large expense to most people’s shopping basket).

HEALTH AND WELLEBING> Fundamental to a resilient community, able to cope with external shocks such as economic downturns or global pandemics is to instil health and wellbeing as a core principle of life. Our organisation is able to offer a suite of services to community members, individually adapted to the needs of each person. This could include things such as support with substance abuse, accessing healthcare, referrals for mental health screening and counselling sessions, community events for socialise and peer support with weight loss and healthy living. TCS has the ability to provide a holistic range of services to ensure participants can enjoy life to the fullest by prioritising health and happiness and putting individuals on a pathway towards a better life. These opportunities although simple in nature, have historically been closed to marginalised and disadvantaged communities.

LIVELIHOODS & SKILLS TRAINNING> A job not only provides an income, it provides a sense of responsibility and helps build confidence and life skills. In this fast-paced world, it is harder and harder to find jobs in some communities, which is why we provide key educational courses to open up opportunities for disadvantaged groups to enter key industries, such as Science, Technology, Maths and Engineering, which are critically underrepresented specialities. We are able to provide tailored support and education such as computer and financial literacy, as well as working with Veterans Assistance and other groups to ensure they can access government benefits and social services designed to support them. Alongside our vocational skills training we also play a critical role in advocacy and counselling to build community support and help being high-levels of income to families and communities across New Orleans.

ADVOCACY AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT> Communities are at the heart of our work, we provide the necessary structures to bring community’s together, united behind a cause to help one another improve and mutually prosper. We are able to create support groups and networks deep within communities to access those most vulnerable and remove barriers for them accessing key services such as; healthcare services, safe housing, community counselling and programs, job training skills, comprehensive mental health services, and assistance to pursue education. Removing these barriers are necessary to bring equal opportunities to those who have historically been disadvantaged from accessing service.

REHABILITATION & JOB PLACEMENTS> Here at Target Care Services, we provide the necessary tools for individuals build the skills they need to enter full time employment and remain in the workplace. We also focus on providing community rehabilitation pathways and specials support to help integrate those back into society after they have been incarcerated.  Many ex-offenders find the transition on the outside hard and face even more barriers to employment and education than the rest of the community with which they are from. This often perpetuates a cycle of poverty, crime and incarceration. We help to break this cycle through providing job training, resume writing, facilitating job screening, and job placement assistance.

THE HOMELESS CRISIS> as the inequality gap grows more and more individuals are forced into insecure housing or into a life on the street. We provide the opportunities and resources to keep people off the street such as; promote access to higher education, develop individuals own creativity, and provide the tools so that each person to take positive step in their own lives. The objective of the program is to improve self-sufficiency measures of good citizens, build financial resilience and support healthy drug-abstinence based behaviours, to reduce and even reverse the growing number of persons forced to sleep on the streets.

Our flagship programs form the core service participants need to develop the social skills, life management skills and financial skills to help reduce community level unemployment for those who are underserved, underprivileged, disenfranchised, and disadvantaged which include those who are persons living with a disability. Not only, will these services ensure healthy, resilient community members, but provide opportunities for each person to access the tools needed to attain greater community involvement and a balanced living, necessary for robust mental and physical health.
